Buuuuuuuuuuuuut, when do you think a guy like me will be able to go down to a ford dealership and buy/order one of these new Bronkers without paying over sticker or waiting a year?
This time next year maybe? My wife likes it, it will tow things (which is something we want in her next car) , and she can have 3 pedals. I don’t think you can say that about anything else (new) at this point. We’d likely trade her 17' Forester on it although I’d like to keep all the cars.
2021 Ford Bronco
Ok just a quick one, I’m on vacation and it’s our anniversary!

Congrats! I don’t think you’ll putting down regalar person money on these for at least 18 months. also, I guess it depends on what you need to tow but 3500 aint a lot. This tows 3500 lbs.

Oh bunk...I thought I read 5500 lbs!? Maybe that’s what a 4 runner is rated for? I have been shopping those otherwise. The forester tows 2500...

1. Congrats on the anniversary!
2. I’d guess May/June of 2021 before they receive the rebates/offers that put them at the price they’re worth.

I think the 4runner is 4800 or 4600 or something

Hmm maybe back to the drawing board then, no rush.

Happy anniversary to you and the (surely) lovely Mrs. Trip.
I’d guess late 2021, early ‘22.
And that assumes that projected first delivery is not delayed.

Thanks! 4 years of marriage, and nearly 13 years of togetherness.

Thank you! Yeah, that sounds right. That will give us plenty of time to see if they’re good or not. One of my colleagues has a reservation for one of the “First Editions”. He’ s a super cool dude and would definitely let me wheel it around to see if I like it (he let me get in the drivers seat to show him what he was doing wrong with launch mode in his new 991 lol) . However his wife is super high risk for covid so I likely won’t even see him until we’ve got a vaccine.

Happy anniversary! If your prediction is true, it will be a happier one this time next year. Maybe by then they’ll allow you to get a good spec with three pedals.

Look at the Telluride. That thing has been out for more than a year, and it’s still hard to get a deal on them. The Telluride is in a crowded field, too.
Lots of predictions are wrong, so I won’t guess on the Bronco. The Gladiator cooled off pretty quickly with markups, and that’s a niche vehicle.

our anniversary is next week. the big 10 yr. When can i get a used Bronco for like $20k?
![]() 07/16/2020 at 16:30 |
|
Wow - he must’ve put that in in the first minute!
As much fun as it would be to have the newest toy on the block, I’m always leery of a first year production vehicle, and want to see the tests & comparisons, and especially the long-term tests, before I put money down on a new vehicle. Even better is a few years of data from other drivers, to make sure no major issues arise.
That said, we bought a first year Telluride, but I did wait until a 20k mile review came back glowing.

Congratulations on the anniversary.
I’d say hold off a bit and see what Ford does with it. For one thing, that will let prices normalize. Also, m aybe they will add a factory tow package option for 2022 that will increase the rating. The ratings are based on a variety of factors including chassis, brakes, transmission and engine capability as well as cooling. I know when I looked at the Terrain, it only pulls 1500 unless you get the factory towing package, which adds the hitch and wiring harness, but also a larger radiator and an aux trans cooler, and then its rated for 3500.

Late 21/early 22 is a good guess so I’ll echo that. That would also be a good amount of time to wait to see if this has any of those weird Ford early-production issues, like flaking paint or disintegrating manual transmis si ons, that make you question if they’ve really been mass-producing automobiles for 100 years.

“when do you think a guy like me will be able to go down to a ford dealership and buy/order one of these new Bronkers without paying over sticker or waiting a year?”
A guy like YOU???
NEVER!!!!
You’re only worthy of a Misubishi Mirage!!!!

I think it will follow a similar cycle to the Gladiator. First 6 months post- launch at MSRP or more. Next 6 months with a slight discount. 2nd year update trims as well as rebate and discount the bloody hell out of them.
They’re still a year away from launching . So, plan on seeing a cornucopia of discounted ones on dealer lots 2 Q or 3Q 2022.

Totally agree. He also has a 4 wrangler rubicon...so not sure if hes keeping that or what.
What’s the telluride tow? This could turn into a “we have to get an automatic, but well also get another R53 cooper” situation.

I mean kinda no thanks on the mirage but I ’m super down with the color!

Owner of 3 explorers and 2 rangers I know what were in for, haha. We would definitely be waiting until you can get a “deal” on one. That should be plenty of time to see what all is bad on them.

“but I’m super down with the color!”
See? I KNEW you were a heathen!!!
(just like me)
LOL

They won’ t raise it from 3500. This is what we’re getting.
![]() 07/16/2020 at 17:48 |

Yeah the Telluride is probably #1 on the list of “if w e have to get an automatic”. My #1 on that list is a slightly used RRS but she’ll hate how often that needs to be serviced even if I’m turning the wrench.
![]() 07/16/2020 at 17:50 |

You might get a beat but complete original Bronco for 20k which I would honestly rather.
![]() 07/16/2020 at 18:05 |
|
I don’t think she likes it but it’s worth a look as that you can make a deal on. I honestly think she’d go for a 4 door wrangler over the gladiator. She has always wanted a Jeep. I always tell her what pieces of shit they are while I surpass our mortgage payment for something I need/want for one the Bimmers.
Can ya get the 4 door with a stick? If so that could be a winner as I’m confident that she’ll like it even if I had to pick it out and there is no way she would see that coming.
![]() 07/16/2020 at 18:11 |
|
Yep. You don’t get max towing capacity with a stick but it’s still around 7k IIRC. Wrangler tops out at the same towing capacity as the Bronco.

We want one for our future second home on the Big Island , but Covid keeps pushing out our start date for that process . Hopefully by the time we’re ready to order , the price gouging will settle down.

I have no inclination to buy a Bronco one way or another, so it doesn't bother me too much. It seems like the Bronco, especially the higher trims *could* pull more, but we're at the mercy of whatever Ford wants to give us.

There is more to it than power, and I suspect there will never be a version that makes the concessions that would be needed.
![]() 07/16/2020 at 19:46 |
|
I'd say in about a year. Maybe year and a half. I wouldn't want a first year of production anyways.
![]() 07/16/2020 at 19:48 |

If it were me, I’d absolutely hold off on buying this brand spanking new. Wait for someone to not like it and sell it used, figure out if this thing is really all that good (I mean, numbers and announcement trailers are cool, but it’s also good to find out how this thing lasts over the course of a year or two). Then it’ll be cheaper and more reputable if you know what I mean.
Happy anniversary . Clever post title.

I know it’s more than power. I mentioned in my original reply that its brakes, chassis, and also cooling. And I think you’re right, there are concessions that go into making a tow package work, and we may not get them. It never hurts to hope, though. But it also pays to be realistic.

I was just wondering the same thing. My wife, very surprisingly, expressed interest in getting one of these for her next car. The only other cars she’s ever mentioned that she liked were Beetle’s (which she currently has), the VW Eos, and the Ford Thunderbird(2005ish).
I bet a few months after they come out you’ll be able to find them on the lot without a markup.
She wants a blue one, two doors, base model with the manual transmission. Exactly how I would spec it!

Stay in the family & get an Atlas. Those things are nice, and they’re HUGE inside.
Plus, you’ll get an American car!

Definitely in the cards.

Hopefully not long. And hopefully the markups aren’t insane (probably will). I remember how Ford treated the RS like it was a GT. The dealer near me had one roped off with a $15k mark up. Wouldn’t let you test drive it unless you put a down payment.
